I am trying to program my Yamaha remote to control other equipment but the codes are not in the list at the back of the manual, do you have other codes?
All of the available codes are listed in the back of the owners manual, unfortunately if they are not listed then either the component in question is newer than the Yamaha, or the code was not provided to Yamaha at the time of manufacture. Due to the nature of the handset being pre-programmed, it is not possible to add additional codes at a later date.
My amplifier and DVD player both support the DTS format however when I play a DVD with a DTS soundtrack I can only get the picture but no sound? Please Help?
You have several options you need to check to try and rectify the problem. Firstly make sure the DVD player is connected properly using either a coaxial or Optical/Digital cable. Secondly ensure that the DVD disc that you are playing has a DTS soundtrack on it, and that it has been selected from the Audio setup menu on the disc itself. One of the most common reasons for not getting a DTS signal is that the DVD player has not been configured to output a DTS signal. This can be checked on the on-screen menu of the DVD player, normally audio/digital output, which needs to be set to DTS or bitstream output. Your final check should be on the amplifier itself ensuring that the input you have chosen is configured to automatically pick up a received signal, check your manual for details.
I have connected my DVD player to the amp and the picture on the TV is black and white
The most likely cause of this is that either the DVD or TV are not set to recive the correct type of input. Ensure that the DVD is set to ourput the same type of video format as the TV is set to recieve (ie if you are using S video, ensue that the DVD is outputting this format and ensure that the TV is able to accept S video on the input which you are using). This problem is especially common when using SCART to S video connections. An S video to SCART lead will not convert signals, only transfer what is there already.
I have setup my amp with the YPAO auto setup. The system reports that some of my speakers are out of phase. What does this mean and how do I get around this?
The auto setup has heard that the signals coming from certain speakers are not in phase with each other. This could be caused by the positive and negative speakers wires being reversed or by the position of the speakers in your room from causing the out of phase sound. First, check your wiring is correct and that all positive connections and negative connections are the right way around. If this is correct, try moving the speakers slightly - there are test CD's available which aid in speaker placement. Your dealer can advise further about these discs.
My amp switches off as soon as I turn it on.
The amp has a built in protection circuit, to prevent heat or faults from damaging other components. Your speaker wires may be touching each other at some point, check to ensure all positive cables and negative cables are not touching each other or the amps chassis. If this is not the case, it is possible that your amp has developed a fault and will require servicing. Your dealer can advise on this.
I have an amp with HDMI inputs. When I connect my source component to the display device directly, all is OK, however it will not operate when connected via HDMI through the amp, is my amp faulty?
HDMI is a complex connection. In order to communicate with other devices, protocols are used. These communications are two way. In order to operate directly to a display device, different protocols are required to communicating through an intermediate device (called a repeater). These repeater protocols are required by your source component to work through the amps HDMI repeater. We would suggest contacting your dealer or manufacture of the source equipment to see if a firmware upgrade is available to allow HDMI repeater support.
Can other components be stacked on top of my amp?
Your receiver or amplifier should not have anything placed on top of it, covering the vents. These vents need to be left open, as that is how the unit cools itself. Most receivers and amplifiers are convection cooled. This process works by heated air from within the unit rising through the vents in the top of the unit. At the same time, the air rising through the top draws cooler air in from the vents at the bottom. This is a continuous process. If your receiver or amplifier is in an enclosed cabinet, air movement could be severely restricted. Consider a small cooling fan for increased air circulation. Never remove the feet from the bottom of your unit, as there are ventilation holes on the bottom of your unit as well.
Can I use low impedance speakers with my Yamaha amp?
Yes, many Yamaha AV receivers are stable down to 4 ohms. We recommend that you use only speakers with a minimum of 4 ohms. Also, please make sure that the impedance selector switch is set to the correct position as recommended by the owner's manual.
I want to connect a turntable to my amp, is his possible?
You can use any auxiliary input on our AV receiver, providing you have an external turntable pre-amplifier. Simply connect the turntable to the pre-amp, then connect the pre-amp to the AUX input. If your Yamaha amp has an input marked ¨phono¨, you do not require an external pre-amplifier and this input can be used directly with your turntable. The phono input should not be used for other products other than a turntable.
