With the help of our technical support department we have identified some of the frequently asked questions, that we receive at Yamaha Electronics UK Ltd. If you have a technical question which you feel should be on this page please email the technical team by clicking this link.

My amplifier and DVD player both support the DTS format however when I play a DVD with a DTS soundtrack I can only get the picture but no sound? Please Help?
You have several options you need to check to try and rectify the problem. Firstly make sure the DVD player is connected properly using either a coaxial or Optical/Digital cable. Secondly ensure that the DVD disc that you are playing has a DTS soundtrack on it, and that it has been selected from the Audio setup menu on the disc itself. One of the most common reasons for not getting a DTS signal is that the DVD player has not been configured to output a DTS signal. This can be checked on the on-screen menu of the DVD player, normally audio/digital output, which needs to be set to DTS or bitstream output. Your final check should be on the amplifier itself ensuring that the input you have chosen is configured to automatically pick up a received signal, check your manual for details.

I require a remote control/instruction manual or spare part for my Yamaha product, can you please tell me where I can get these?

What is DVD-Audio?
DVD-Audio is a new audio format that offers even higher sound quality than CDs. It uses a 12cm optical disc, the same size as a CD, but is capable of reproducing frequencies up to 100kHz, compared with 20kHz for CDs. Although frequencies above 20kHz are inaudible, the higher harmonics result in a more natural sound.

How can I play discs from other regions on my DVD player?
Manufacturers are obliged to ensure that when players are made that they only play a single region. Whilst it is not illegal to own a multi region machine, or for a dealer or end user to modify or sell one, it is not allowed for a manufacturer to make one or aid in the modification to deliberately break the region coding. All the multi region machines you see for sale have been modified (usually by the dealers) subsequent to leaving the factory. Region coding can be either hardware dependant, firmware dependant or software dependant. Nearly all Yamaha region coding is software controlled. For more information please consult your dealer.
