MusicCAST
With the help of our technical support department we have identified some of the frequently asked questions, that we receive at Yamaha Electronics UK Ltd. If you have a technical question which you feel should be on this page please email the technical team by clicking this link.
Can I upgrade my MusicCAST server Hard Disc Drive capacity?
The answer is yes. The MCX-2000 server comes as standard with an 16Gb HDD, however the product is capable of handling up to a 2Tb HDD if such a drive currently existed on the domestic market. Much more realistic is a 400Gb drive, which will approximately allow 5000 CD's in MP3 format.
If you wish to have the server fitted with a larger HDD you need to contact your local authorised Yamaha dealer who will be able to fit the drive for you. The server can only be modified by an authorised dealer due to special software needed for the procedure.
I read on the Internet that a Version Upgrade has been issued for the MusicCAST system, if so what does it do, and where can I obtain it?
There has indeed been a Version Upgrade made available for the MCX1000 MusicCAST system. The Version Upgrade will add the following features to the MusicCAST system, plus much more...
--Recall Play-- Copies the currently playing song and playback settings from a source MusicCAST server or client to a destination MusicCAST server or client, then starts playback on the destination component.
--Broadcast-- Synchronises operations such as song playback of selected MusicCAST clients with the MusicCAST server.
--Function Keys-- You can assign a function to each of the FUNC1/FUNC2/FUNC3 keys as a shortcut.
--Additional controllable Yamaha AV receiver-- The RX-V2400RDS has been added to the list of Yamaha AV receivers that the MusicCAST server is able to control through an RS-232C cross-cable.
--MP3 disc playback-- The server is now able to Broadcast MP3 CD discs, using transmission to the clients via the Broadcast mode.
To get hold of the latest Version Upgrade contact your local Yamaha authorised dealer, who will be able to supply details.
There is no upgrades for the MCX2000 system although these will follow as and when further functions are added.
I have a home PC network, can MusicCAST connect in to this?
Yes the MusicCAST server will connect to your home network. It will be able to share the internet connection (through the router) and you can access album editing software from other PCs on the network. You can also listen to data which is stored on the MusicCAST server (MCX2000 only) through PCs on the network when using DLNA media server software (supplied with the MCX2000).
Can the MCXC15 clients be used wirlessly?
Yes, you will need to use and configure a Ethernet bridge for each client.
I have a large house and the wireless range is not great enough to reach all my wireless clients, can the range be extended?
The range can be "extended" by adding wireless access points to your network. These are wired back to your server and placed strategically around your home to allow the maximum wireless coverage. Your dealer will be able to advise further.
